Spiritual Development at The Hendreds

At The Hendreds we are committed to enabling all to value themselves and the people around them in the wider world. Our aim is for all to aspire to be the best they can become and live their lives to the fullest. As a Church of England School, we recognise that for many, belief in God is a key part of their spirituality and spiritual development. We also promote an understanding that spirituality is not synonymous with religion. Through our broad curriculum, Collective Worship and wider school provision, we help children to develop the skills they need to be aware of, and reflective about, their own beliefs and perspectives on life, religious of otherwise. This thread of spirituality gives children ongoing opportunities to experience being ‘taken out of themselves’ and explore not only their own ideas but to understand, empathise and make connections with the world around them. We encourage our children to appreciate that spirituality is a source of inspiration; to notice that there is spirituality in their creativity, ideas, observations, learning and enjoyment of everyday life. Through this we enable children to explore their own values, what matters to them and how that will shape their future.
